What is the difference between Pro and Fix?

How do they differ from one another, and are there features which overlap?

I am under the impression that Pro is much more actively maintained than Fix, is that right?

Thanks

Fix was abandoned, I think.

Doesn't sound like that from a couple of Azarael's last posts.

Well, pro has more features and doesn't replace any v25 files.

BallisticPro and the Ballistic Fix are two different versions of BW.

Ballistic Fix is a bugfix and feature update for Ballistic V2.5. The vast majority of the gameplay and balance were left untouched and it contains more configuration options than BallisticPro does. The fix wasn't abandoned; originally it overwrote Ballistic V2.5 files, but RuneStorm expressed a wish that it no longer do so in future editions. Since compatibility is now broken, Fix releases are stalled until the authors of the two main weapon packs for BW wish for their packs to be supported directly.

BallisticPro contains all the bugfixes and improvements of the fix, but also heavily changes the gameplay, weapon handling and weapon balance. It also contains some changes that I wouldn't make in Fix due to the realism concerns of the standard BW players. It does not offer as many configuration options because it is intended to be standardised for online play.

It is definitely clear that each version has a couple of strong points. Personally I much prefer the weapon handling of Pro than how it was made in the original BW and Sgt. Kelly packs.

You talk of changes in Pro that don't reach Fix due to realism concerns... What are they, if you don't mind elaborating?

The most obvious examples are the R78 and R9. In Pro, the R78 compensates for its blandness by having an extremely quiet fire sound, since there's no actual suppressed rifle and I wanted the concept of one. The Pro R9 has a secondary fire which magically fires the bullet as if a suppressor were attached. For that latter one, I could always make something up about future technology but I tend to leave that to other people.

Future versions of Fix will include an option to use BallisticPro's hipfire type.
