Re: Standard weapon balance
Mini and Link make sense for finishing not because they're OP but because they do constant stream DPS. This is optimal in low HP situations, especially where the exact HP value is not known.
While I'm at it, Link alt is another example of variable power based on skill. The effectiveness of the Link lockdown is based on your hit rate, so Link alt scales heavily based on player skill.

Re: Standard weapon balance
I prefer being killed by a stombo than spammed to death by a minigun, even stombo requires a minimum of skill; shock is mainly spammed in particular places (fallencity...) and by lowering the ammo available it should be fine. If you want to avoid trouble with the minigun, remove it from some maps and voila.
Its all about the game, and how you play it
All about control, and if you can take it
All about your debt, and if you can payit
Its all about pain and whos gonna make it...

Minigun in that area was not altered in any way.Azarael wrote:Mini and Link make sense for finishing not because they're OP but because they do constant stream DPS. This is optimal in low HP situations, especially where the exact HP value is not known.

You might as well rename it 'Stinger Minigun',
Crap damage, with a gimmick of pinning people to the wall that in practice is never useful. UT3 entered the game.

The Minigun is more prevalent than usual in Assault maps and is intended as a usable primary weapon there.

Re: Standard weapon balance
What are you babbling about? UT3 Singer is even stronger Minigun (DPS on PRI = 154) and does signifcantly more damage versus vehicles. I recall a "no stinger" mutator being used on VCTF servers back in time.iRobot wrote:You might as well rename it 'Stinger Minigun',

Re: Standard weapon balance
Certainly not as a primary weapon. How would it? To spam yourself through, not mentioning that AS is partially vehicle based? And not even in UT2004 in general, you could perhaps say that for UT2003 where Minigun had also a lockdown effect.Azarael wrote:The Minigun is more prevalent than usual in Assault maps and is intended as a usable primary weapon there.

The false statement is to suggest that all Minigun fire is spam. The purpose of adding range atten and tightening the spread was to prevent that.
